I have owned the car since summer of 1999. I am the third owner. I spend the winter months here in Florida, and obviously have not driven the car very much. The car presents itself beautifully. It has always been garaged and covered. There is no sun-fade and no leather deterioration. The paint is still lustrous and glossy. There are the usual issues that you would expect from a car that sits so close to the road - stone chips on the front and rear valences. Other than that, the body is pristine. There is no rust. The car comes with the factory tool kit - original owner's manual in a plush leather folder - a spare bulb kit - a repro factory service manual - and a couple of odds and ends that you might never use, but are handy to have. I have gotten to the point where I just don't drive the car any more, and have decided that it is time to see if I can find someone to buy it. Here's a list of things that need to be addressed: 1. These engines use a rubber timing belt. The factory recommendation is to remove the engine and check the belts/tensioners/other associated parts every five years. It is due for this service. This is not an inexpensive job - I am told that the usual bill for this is $5 - $6,000. The engine runs fine, but it is a lurking time bomb if the belt fails. I have been told that some sellers of these cars will create a fake invoice to show that the service has been done. I feel that the best way to present this car is to price it with the need for this service built into the asking price. If I have the work done, then any warranty from the service provider would likely not transfer to the new owner, so this seems to me to be the best way to handle the issue. 2. There are a few more issues that I need to mention: Door lock solenoid on passenger side stays energized - and will drain the battery. My closest Ferrari dealer is 100 miles away - local shop could not diagnose, and their solution was to remove the relay to stop the drain. With a two-seat car, it is not a chore to reach across and lock the door manually. Automatic seat belt mechanism on driver's side does not work. This is probably hopeless...this was a Micky Mouse arrangement from the getgo, and is not worth replacing. Seat belts work fine, but you have to click them manually. A/C compressor energizes, but does not blow cold air. The unit probably needs a freon recharge, but the freon will be lost when the engine-out service is done, so I did not see a reason to do it until the engine was brought current. When you buy an exotic like this, it is highly recommended that you have a pre-purchase inspection done by someone competent. I second this motion. I'll be happy to cooperate with any PPI that you might want to do. Please mark me for a copy of the report so that I can address any other important issues that might show. I am unaware of any other problems, but I'm not a Ferrari mechanic. I'm an honest person. I've been on Ebay for over eleven years, and have a 100% positive rating. I have bought three cars and sold one. I've never had anything but pleasant dealings with folks I have dealt with. I plan to keep it that way. If you make a deal with me and show up to pick up the car, here is the deal: If you don't like it, you don't own it. Your money back. End of story. I'm sure there will be questions. My prediction is that the top question will be "What is the lowest price you'll take?" My answer is that "I don't really know". I want to sell the car, and it depends upon the response I receive. I think that $30K is a decent figure, but we'll let the market sort it out. If I can't get an acceptable offer, then I'll get the engine serviced and drive it for another ten years.....nothing wrong with that, because the car is drop-dead gorgeous, and is a hoot to drive.
